GQ: Obama-Nation

GQ’s “Men of the Year” issue hits newsstands today and with the Obama-sensation sweeping the nation, Barack Obama has been chosen as their "Game Changer of the Year."

An article written by Senator Edward M. Kennedy, as to why Obama was the change we were waiting for and the man we can believe in, can be read here: GQ Blog.

Also, Obama is joined by Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Phelps, and Jon Hamm as one of the four covers for this year’s issue.

For the style-savvy: There's an article on Thom Browne (most influential menswear designer in America) and "How To Buy A Tux" featuring Brandon Flowers, from The Killers.

Positive Thoughts

Five Great Thoughts To Follow:

1.) Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, energy vampires, issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you can not control. Instead invest your energy in the positive, present moment.

2.) Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.

3.) No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

4.) Get rid of anything that is not useful, beautiful or joyful.

5.) No matter how you feel - get up, dress up and show up.

Tank Books

As one habit dies hard, another takes hold.

As the ban on smoking in public places continues to sweep the United Kingdom, Tank Magazine launched a series of books designed to mimic cigarette packs – the same size, packaged in flip-top cartons with silver foil wrapping and sealed in cellophane.

Idea generator and design mavericks, (the British company) Tank Form has adopted an icon of design, stolen its meaning, turned it into pop art, and given it to a far less corrosive habit.

Titles [[$14 each]] include: Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness"; Ernest Hemingway's "The Snows of Kilimanjaro" and “The Undefeated”; Franz Kafka's “The Metamorphosis” and “In the Penal Colony”; Rudyard Kipling's “The Man Who Would Be King”; “The Phantom ’Rickshaw” and “Black Jack”; Robert Louis Stevenson's "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" and Leo Tolstoy's “The Death of Ivan Ilych” and "Father Sergius."

Classic stories presented in classic packaging; objects desirable for both their literary merit and their unique design. A perfect gift for people on the move, lovers of literature and connoisseurs of design.

Chronicles of Never

The unisex line, Chronicles of Never, is known for creating unique mens and womens jewelery including necklaces, rings, pendants, and earrings. The latest line also includes eyewear and clothing — a range that features shirts, shorts, scarfs, hoodies, pants, vests and shoes.

Gareth Moody, the designer of the former Australian brand Ksubi (originally named Tsubi) says: “I love books and have hundreds. But more than particular books, it's particular subjects — geology, architecture, anatomy, the space in space — that make a mark on me and my designs. The materials I chose to use are old and real; black brass because gold is too golden, brushed silver, because polished silver is too polished, and black silver because it is black.

Since the brand's conception in 2006, Chronicles of Never jewelery is stocked in numerous boutique stores throughout Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom, including the world famous Selfridges. Future seasons of Chronicles of Never are almost certain to see an expansion into the fashion arena of clothing and accessories.
